Seeing children's progress

The Development Map is a visual, holistic map showing a child’s development and progress over time across areas and aspects of learning

Through

  • Showing the child’s learning & progress in a holistic way so that practitioners, teachers, parents & carers can see the ‘whole child’ & the complex nature of their development & progress from birth to 6 yrs old
  • Focusing on assessment for learning in everyday practice and understanding each child’s developmental pathway
  • Making professionally informed decisions about the child’s progress along a developmental continuum using the Ranges and overlapping age strands
  • Highlighting, in a timely way, where a child may need more support in a particular aspect of their development
  • Ensuring the early identification of specific developmental needs e.g. speech and language development, SEND, well-being etc
